Yay - there we are at lucky number 7!

--- Footprints of London, December 6, 2014 ---
Jen Pedler chose Map Gift Shop, Archway

Map Gift Shop is one of Archway’s hidden gems. It recently won a Time Out Love London award for the best shop in N19
MAP was founded by the design partnership of Ian Morris and Kathryn Phalp in 1990 and moved to their current premises, a former butcher’s shop on Junction Road, in 2000. The shop stocks a large range of unique gifts and cards for all occasions, many produced by local artists and designers. And you can have your purchases expertly gift- wrapped. It’s a real treat ...

This fun product makes a great gift or fun packed table decoration for your big day. But what's inside I hear you shout? None of the usual toot that is for sure!

Featured Artist - Nina Dogmetchi

Featured Artist - Nina Dogmetchi

How excited were we this week to take delivery of our first order of a wonderful book and to hear the uplifting story from its' creator about how she is 'living her dream'?

Nina Dogmetchi has lived in Archway for most of her life - It was an absolute pleasure to have her work at map gift shop briefly back in 2000. Since then her career has taken her on an exciting and colourful journey through textile designer in New York, Artist in Residence at Eton College to Graphic Designer at 2 major sportswear labels in Germany.

In 2013 Nina took the daring decision to quit her job at Adidas and set up her own company Imagination Illustrated. In January this year Nina made a Kickstarter pledge to help fund a small run of "The Lazy Leopard" a book she had both written and illustrated.

Bleeding London - We're in are you?

Bleeding London - We're in are you?

The London Region of the Royal Photographic Society is inviting Londoners, and visitors to the capital to participate in one of the most ambitious photo projects that the capital has ever seen – to photograph every street in London. Based on the Whitbread short-listed novel, Bleeding London by Geoff Nicholson ( the ultimate read for any London freak. Nicholson describes the enormousness and enormity of London with a mix of pleasure and disgust as the character Stuart walks every street in the trusty A-Z, crossing them out as he goes along!)

The RPS are challenging Londoners and visitors to follow in the footsteps of Stuart London and cover the entire A to Z documenting their journey as they go! One of our customers Jen Pedler - local resident and local historian has risen to that challenge and has now succeeded in photographing every street in N19. If that wasn't enough of a challenge she has been blogging about her journey with witty ramblings and musings about the streets she has walked. Her posts are packed with amusing insights, local information and historical references.

Mum had One of Those

Mum had One of Those

Our very good friends Neil Andrews and Des Curran have set up a company with the quirky title Mumhadoneofthose collecting and often reluctantly selling, mid-century design classics. Their carefully curated collection of classic designs in pottery, glass, ceramic, furniture and kitchenware can be admired here......you will no doubt get a sense of their passion for fabulous vintage finds. I also love Neil's infectious passion for a good photo - his often witty pics cleverly portray an everyday quintessential London with all it's quirks and beauty.

Little SEEDBALLS of love

Little SEEDBALLS of love

It is always a pleasure to stock products you believe are worthwhile! The friendly people at Seedball came onto our radar through Twitter. Keen as ever to support our neighbours, (they are based in Muswell Hill), we also loved their story and their dream "to scatter the seed ball of love, up and down the UK". SEEDBALL is run by Project Maya, a non-profit eco-social enterprise working to build a global network of reserves. Based on the principles of permaculture, these reserves will represent nature and community in balance, with space for wildflowers, wildlife, food growing and fun!

Featured Artist - Maxwell Dorsey

Those who know map gift shop will no doubt already know we pride ourselves on showcasing local talent. As textile designers we also love a print! It is with absolute pleasure that I am introducing the work of local artist Maxwell Dorsey. I met Maxwell some 30 years ago - and am pleased that over the period our paths have continued to collide - his studio is in Bickerton Road where he works with his partner and collaborator Yvonne Chambers. He recently has produced some ranges of work which fit very nicely alongside our spring collection. His drawings of wild flowers displayed in humble jars and glasses are ...

I asked Ian about his favourite products one day and he instantly chose the range of cards by Mark Herald for Art Angels! Mark’s charming work is "informed by a fascination with the natural world".......Inspired to celebrate this delightful range - Ian set about painting a backdrop for our first Spring inspired window!
